At the EJC assembly
On June 26 the General Assembly of the European Jewish Congress (EJC) was convened in Paris with the participation of 130 delegates representing 36 Jewish communities in Europe. The General Assembly adopted a decision to create a Board of Governors, which will be responsible for educational and cultural programs, as well as fundraising. Mr. Moshe Kantor, who initiated the International World Leaders Forum on January 27, 2005 in commemoration of the 60
anniversary of KL Auschwitz-Birkenau liberation, was elected Chairman of the Board of Governors. French candidate Pierre Besnainou was elected President of the EJC for a mandate of two years renewable.
The General Assembly also elected 17 members of the Executive and extended Mr. Serge Cwajgenbaum’s term of office as Secretary General.
In keeping with the tradition of rotation of small communities within the Executive, Switzerland, Poland and Byelorussia yielded their places to Turkey, Spain and Romania.
